NORVIEW HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI AND FRIENDS ASSOCIATION
Minutes of the meeting of August 20, 2024NEXT BUSINESS MEETING: September 17. 2024 at 6:30 PMAt the Azalea Inn, 2344 East Little Creek Road
The meeting was called to order by Willie Barnes ’68, President, at 6:30 PM. Teresa Hodges Deloatch ‘82, Vice President, Rick West ’66, Secretary, and Diane Rusbuldt Wymer ’68, Treasurer, were the other officers present.

The minutes of the previous meeting were approved.
MEMBERSHIP REPORT
We have received 2024 dues from 144 Alumni and friends. A listing of current members by class year can be found on the Alumni website, Norview.org
The Class of 68 leads with 36 paid members, the class of 69 has 12 and the classes of 65, 67, and 70 have 6 paid members.

BUSINESS: 1) Angela Williams Hicks, NHS Asst. Athletic Director invited all to the Homecoming game against Churchland on September 27th at 7:30. There will be an Alumni table set up at the game. 2) The new Golf Coach, Clinton Smith was introduced and spoke. 3) Willie Barnes ’68, President, spoke about a meeting he, Teresa Hodges Deloatch ‘82, Vice President, and Rick West ’66, Secretary, attended at Norview about the Alumni helping with a teacher appreciation week, creating an “Adopt a Class” program and exploring other ways we might be able to help Norview and the community. We might also be able to get other organizations to help out. 4) Rick West brought up the fact that Norfolk Public Schools started on August 19th this year and will end on May 30, 2025 and we will therefore need to again hold our Scholarship Banquet at our regular May meeting. He made a motion that we choose our scholar recipients at our March meeting, hold the scholarship banquet at our May meeting and then hold a regular business meeting on the third Tuesday in June. It was voted on and passed. 5) Because the City of Norfolk does not fund athletic teams’ uniforms and equipment, we have asked alumni to donate to NHS for this purpose. If you wish to donate, you can send a check and note what you want the funds to be for to Norview High School, 6501 Chesapeake Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23513. If you want to speak with someone at the school, call 757-852-4500. There is an on line store that sells all kinds of Norview clothing and other items that can be accessed at www.NPSK12.com/NHS. If you query “Online store” at this site you will get the store. A portion of the proceeds go back to the school/
